Full course description
This course provides engineers and technology professionals with a structured understanding of Additive Manufacturing (AM), its technological foundations, and its role in aerospace and advanced engineering industries. It supports innovation-oriented engineers by strengthening systems thinking, improving decision-making related to manufacturing technologies, and enabling informed assessment of AM in industrial aerospace contexts. The course combines conceptual understanding with practical industrial applicability.
Target audience: Professionals such as manufacturing engineers, design engineers, product development engineers, innovation and technology specialists and engineers with mixed technical backgrounds, PhD students and researchers seeking competence in Additive Manufacturing.
Pre-knowledge: Basic engineering knowledge. Experience in product development, manufacturing, or aerospace systems is beneficial but not mandatory.
Course content: The course consists of six modules covering:
- Introduction to Additive Manufacturing
- Additive Manufacturing Process Categories
- Materials and Process Fundamentals
- Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM)
- Post-Processing and Validation
- Industrial Applications and Strategic Considerations
While examples are primarily drawn from aerospace applications, most concepts and methods presented in the course are broadly applicable to additive manufacturing in other engineering industries.
How the course will be conducted:
Online, self-paced. Offered through LiU, LTU and SARC. The course includes short lectures, structured modules, quizzes, and reflection exercises.
Dates and times for the online meetings:
Optional live sessions may be organised depending on the time of year and alignment with SARC events.
To pass the course you need to:
