This course focuses on two pillars that exist in all businesses: data and decisions. The landscape of organizational data and decisions based on data is witnessing a transformation. We all have access to big data from both in- and outside our organization. Decisions used to be made by exclusively by humans, but nowadays algorithms and bots can make data-driven decisions. This course addresses this development and the complexity unfolding. 

Target audience: Those responsbile for data, analytics, and decison-making in organizations.

Pre-knowledge: Knowledge about data, analysis, and decisions in organizations.

Course content: The course, business intelligence, addresses organizational data and how they ought to be structured and analyzed to support data-driven decisions. Participants will learn about data, data analytics, decisions, and data-driven decisions based on evidence from the data. The course includes use cases e.g., energy, healthcare, insurance, and sports.

The course is organized into five modules. While the course is online, there exist three meetings with the course instructor, of two hours each. The three meetings come in the beginning, middle, and in the end of the course.

The structure of the course: The course is structured as follows: self-study (23 hours) and on-line meetings (6 hours), on-site practice (3 hours Aprox. – needs booking)

To pass the course you need to Take the quizzes and finish them successfully, as a pre-requisite to submitting the project. The project is the formal assessment.

Presentation of the teacher:

Ahmed Elragal is a Professor of Information Systems at Luleå University of Technology (LTU). He is the Acting Head of LTU’s Information Systems research subject. Prof. Elragal is the data science masters’ program coordinator. He also works as adjunct professor at Kristiania University College (KUC), Oslo. Prof. Elragal has obtained his Phd in Decision Support Systems from Plymouth University in the UK. His research interests are: decision theory, data analytics, business intelligence, data science, enterprise systems, and data architecture for AI. He has helped several companies to develop their analytics competencies.
