Fullständig kursbeskrivning

Throughout history, breakthroughs in materials science have driven some of the greatest industrial innovations — from semiconductors that sparked the electronics revolution to stronger steel enabling lighter and more efficient constructions.

In this course you will learn the foundation of materials science and engineering, which opens up new possibilities for you in your work.

Target audience: This course is for you that are already an engineer but did not have a course in materials science and engineering in your course curriculum. You are working in the steel- or other industry and will in this course learn the basics of materials science and engineering, to be prepared to take further, more advanced courses in the field.

Prerequisite-knowledge: At least three years of university studies in engineering.

Course content:

  • Introduction to material families and their properties
  • Crystal structures
  • Mechanical properties
  • Microstructure and Phase transformation
  • Diffusion
  • Fracture mechanics and Fractography
  • Hardening mechanisms
  • Heat treatment
  • Metal alloys
  • Corrosion and Degradation
